Failing Your IPPT

If you don’t pass your IPPT, you can try again several times within your designated IPPT period. However, if the window ends and you still have not succeeded, you will need to attend 10 compulsory NS Fitness Improvement Training sessions, including one IPPT attempt, in the following window.

You are free from yearly fitness obligations after being released from Operationally Ready National Service (ORNS) duties. You need at least 51 points to pass the IPPT in Singapore. Also, you will failed your test as well if you will not score at-least 01 point in pushups or situps.

Tips for doing pushups as per IPPT standards:
• Target at least 10 push-ups for 1 point, depending on your age group.
• Do them in 60 seconds with good technique — straight body, full arm stretch.
• Strengthen your chest, shoulders and arms through consistent training.
• Manage your speed to keep going strong and rack up more reps. Always set realistic targets.

The number of rounds for a 2.4 km run depends on the track size. On a standard 400 meter track, it is 6 full rounds (since 2,400 meters ÷ 400 meters = 6 laps). If the track is a different length like 200 meters, it would be 12 rounds. Always check your specific running course.

Pre run nutrition are Bread, Peanut Butter, Fruits, Fresh Juices or Sports Drink, Pasta, Lean Meat etc.

The IPPT period follows the Financial Year, starting on April 1 every year and finishing on March 31 the next year. All NSmen who need to take the IPPT have to pass it during this time.

If you get a health issue that might change your PES status or affect your ability to do the IPPT, you should visit a doctor. If needed, you can then ask for a medical review.

You can take the IPPT as many times as you want during your IPPT period to earn the cash reward. But once you reach the Gold level, you can’t try again until the next year’s window starts.

If you already got a cash reward from an earlier IPPT try, and then you do better and earn a bigger reward later, they’ll pay you the extra amount you earned on top of what you got before.

If you tried the IPPT but didn’t pass, you’ll need to do 10 sessions of Mandatory NS FIT in the next financial year. But if you didn’t even try the IPPT and don’t have a good excuse, you’ll be labeled an IPPT defaulter. That means you’ll still have to do the 10 NS FIT sessions next year, plus you’ll face some disciplinary consequences.

If you’re out of the country for less than a year, you still have to take the IPPT. If you don’t, they’ll mark you as an IPPT defaulter.
